Hawks sweep Lees-McRae on Senior Day

MURFREESBORO – The Chowan University softball team wrapped up the 2025 regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Lees-McRae College here Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks honored seniors Carly Hannah and Alex Bishop prior to the game.

Chowan picked up a 6-2 win in game one behind nine hits and Alex Bishop’s solid mound appearance. Bishop scattered four hits and struck out one in her second win of the season.

Eight different Hawks collected hits in the win led by Kaitlyn Springle who went 2-2 with an RBI.

In game two, the Hawks pounded out 11 hits, with five players getting multiple hits, in an 11-0 win.

Kyra Helton, Calliope James, Lenita Bryson, Alexis Denham, and Hope Soria each collected two hits in the win. Mackenzie Misenheimer and Springle added a hit and three runs batted in each.

Haileigh Boone picked up the win on the mound after tossing five shutout innings of softball. Boone struck out two batters and held the Bobcats to two hits.

Chowan (19-26 overall and 10-14 in league play) advances to the play-in game of the 2025 Conference Carolinas Championship. They will face Shorter University in that game, set for a 1:30 p.m. start on Thursday, April 24 at Tyger River Park in Duncan, S.C.
