NCHS Robotics team advances to world competition

GASTON – In a display of innovation and teamwork, the Northampton County School’s High School Robotics team, known as the ROBOJAGS, has qualified for the state-level FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) in Houston, Texas.

This achievement comes after the team clinched the Rookie All-Star Award at the regional competition held recently at UNC-Greensboro.

The ROBOJAGS, in their debut year at the FRC, have shown exceptional promise and skill, culminating in their win of the State All-Star Award, which secured their place at the state competition.

Coached by Kemar Dawkins, Marcia Stampp-Brown, and Grace Smith, the team has demonstrated a profound commitment to excellence and innovation in the field of robotics.

The team members, Jah’lil Burnell, Daylen Hicks, Eason Jiang, Erica Jiang, Jordan Rascoe, Matthew Jones, Gabriel Atkinson, JaCora Turner, Renardis Rhymer, and Makayla Goffington, have all shown outstanding dedication and teamwork, according to their coaches. These young innovators, representing the bright future of technology and engineering, have demonstrated their prowess in robotics and their capability to tackle complex challenges.

The competition in Houston, Texas is scheduled for April 16-19 where the ROBOJAGS will compete against the best from across the world. As they prepare for the upcoming event, the coaches say the ROBOJAGS are not just competing, they are also inspiring their peers and community with their passion for robotics and their success in applying classroom theories to real-world problems.

Officials with Northampton County Schools say they are proud of the team’s achievements and are excited to support the ROBOJAGS as they represent the local community on the national stage. The entire team is grateful for the continuous support from their school, coaches, families, and fellow students.
