AHOSKIE – Jesse Cordell Nichols, born on February 6, 1944, in Hertford County, North Carolina, peacefully departed this life on April 12, 2025, at the age of 81, in Windsor, North Carolina at Windsor Health and Rehabilitation. Jesse dedicated his career to Perdue Farms, where he worked diligently in maintenance and ultimately retired as a respected foreman after many years of devoted service. Jesse lived a full and generous life marked by hard work, devotion, and love.

Jesse married the love of his life, Virgia Nichols, on June 25, 1977, they would soon be celebrating 47 years of an amazing life together filled with love and laughter. A man of many interests, Jesse held a deep passion for fishing and hunting. He cherished his family above all else, relishing every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A devout follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, Jesse was a pillar of St. John Baptist Church, serving faithfully over the years as a past choir member, in the Men’s Brotherhood, and as a Deacon. His sweet and generous spirit was matched by his great sense of humor, often bringing joy through his jokes and playful banter with loved ones.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Ross Joseph Nichols and Velner Cooke Nichols; son-in-law, Cliff Joyner; and his siblings, Curtis Nichols, Frances Futrell, Fred Nichols, and Linda Nichols.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Virgia Burkett Nichols; daughter, Beverly Nichols Joyner of Ahoskie; and son, Michael Nichols and wife Sandra of Ahoskie. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Brandon Nichols and wife Kayla of Aulander, Michelle Nichols of Askewville, and Taylor Joyner (Josh) of Ahoskie; along with dear great-grandchildren, Brantley and Mallory Nichols, and Leah, Noah, and Rayne Smith. Jesse is additionally survived by his siblings, Joe Nichols and wife Gloria of Ahoskie, Barbara Mulder of Conway, and Delores Early and husband Joe of Aulander. Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends will miss him dearly.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at St. John Baptist Church, 1645 NC-461, Ahoskie, NC 27910. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m., followed by a celebration of life funeral service at 3 p.m., officiated by Rev. James Knight. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC.
