MURFREESBORO – Jerry Worrell Brett, aged 79, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on April 25, 1945, in Franklin, Virginia, to Julian and Mildred Worrell Brett.

Jerry built a fulfilling career in chemical sales, dedicating numerous years of service to his profession. Beyond his professional life, Jerry was a man of varied passions and deep devotion to his community and family. He was a retired firefighter with the Murfreesboro Fire Department, where he served diligently and made lasting friendships.

A devoted member of Meherrin Baptist Church, Jerry cherished his faith community and contributed his time and efforts generously. He had a love for the simple joys of life: meticulously tending to his garden and yard, restoring classic cars, particularly his beloved ’66 GTO.

Family was paramount to Jerry. He delighted in watching his grandsons, Owen and Blake, excel in their sports pursuits, with Owen playing baseball and Blake enjoying basketball. He had a special place in his heart for boxer dogs, especially spending time with his grand dog, Willie. Jerry’s legacy of love, devotion, and service remains in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be missed dearly. May he rest in eternal peace.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Julian Joseph Brett and Mildred Virginia Worrell Brett; his brother, Donald Thomas Brett; and his great-nephew Tanner Francis.

He leaves behind his beloved spouse, Jennifer Umphlette Brett; his children, Michelle Black and her husband Rodney of Murfreesboro, Jerri Kaye Birdsong and her husband Robby, of Conway; grandchildren, Owen Black and Blake Birdsong; nieces, Donna Francis and Tracy Pearce and her husband Paul, of Murfreesboro; great-niece Lauren Pearce; and great-nephew Nathan Pearce and wife Heather, and their daughter, Everly, also of Murfreesboro.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, located in Murfreesboro. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Meherrin Baptist Church, with Rev. John Porter officiating.
