Rep. Pierce files bill to fund local projects

RALEIGH – Rep. Rodney D. Pierce has filed a bill that would appropriate funds for various public works projects within House District 27 (Halifax, Northampton and Warren counties).

The funding request split into three sections, one for each county, and includes $17,806,000 for Northampton County projects. Those projects are:

$400,000 to the Town of Rich Square for wastewater treatment improvements.

$7,000,000 to the Town of Garysburg for water system improvements

$2,150,000 to the Town of Seaboard for Community Center renovations ($500,000), street replacement and repairs ($1,150,000), and renovation of the old Seaboard Bank ($400,000).

$2,000,000 to the Town of Woodland for the construction of a new town hall.

$1,500,000 to Northampton County for wastewater treatment expansion.

$6,000 to the Town of Conway Police Department for video conferencing equipment.

$2,000,000 to the Town of Gaston for a heavy rescue unit and tanker truck for the Volunteer Fire Department.

$400,000 to the Town of Woodland for a rescue truck for its Volunteer Fire Department.

$1,150,000 to the Town of Rich Square to renovate a building and purchase a storage facility for its Volunteer Fire Department.

$750,000 to the Town of Severn for a 3,000-gallon tanker for its Volunteer Fire Department.

$450,000 to the Town of Lasker for building renovations and upgrades for its Volunteer Fire Department.

In Halifax County, Pierce is requesting state for the following:

$610,944 to the City of Roanoke Rapids for Chaloner Bridge replacement and improvements.

$45,280,819 to the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District for the Belmont Pump Station, the Premier Boulevard water/sewer extension, $31,115,000 for a drinking water emerging construction project and $3,100,000 for an activated sludge blower system.

$8,000,000 to the Town of Enfield for its electric grid replacement.

$5,000,000 for sewer line extension to Exit 154 on I-95.

$320,000 for Airboss access road.

$5,000,000 for court services building renovation.

$1,000,000 for broadband service expansion.

$350,000 for a new ambulance.

$200,000 for 18 self-contained breathing apparatus for the Darlington Volunteer Fire Department.

$700,000 to Town of Halifax Fire and Rescue to purchase a fire truck.

$150,000 to the Town of Enfield to upfit fitness building and purchase apparatus for the Fire Department.

$15,176 to the Town of Scotland Neck to purchase body cameras and other needed equipment for the Police Department.

$2,210,000 to the Town of Roanoke Rapids for fire department needs, including a new ladder truck.

$1,025,000 to the Town of Weldon for a new fire engine ($850,000) and building renovations and a viper radio system purchase ($175,000).

Warren County projects listed on Rep. Pierce’s funding request are

$5,430,500 for a regional water system water tank.

$6,064,100 for extension of Eaton’s Ferry Sewer.

$4,803,300 for the Soul City force main replacement.

$994,630 for the Soul City Boulevard water main replacement.

$1,000,000 for a waterline extension at the Industrial Site in Soul City.

$17,750,000 to the Town of Warrenton for wastewater treatment plant rehabilitation ($10,000,000), sewer system rehabilitation ($3,750,000), and water system rehabilitation ($4,000,000).

$1,800,000 for the needs of the Churchill-Five Forks Fire Department.

$175,000 to purchase a brush truck for the Inez Volunteer Fire Department.

$592,000 for the needs of the Roanoke-Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department.

$1,475,000 for the needs of the Hawtree Volunteer Fire Department.

$228,000 for the needs of the Arcola Rural Volunteer Fire Department.

$157,000 for the needs of the Drewry Fire Department.

$850,000 for Soul City Volunteer Fire Department.

$329,920 to the Town of Warrenton for the needs of the Rural Fire Department ($294,920) and to purchase body cameras for the Police Department ($35,000).

$4,000,000 to the Town of Norlina for a new fire station.

Rep Pierce’s bill is also seeking $300,000 in recurring funds to support a multiyear improvement project for Lake Gaston.

“Clearly our community has significant needs, namely around infrastructure, that municipalities do not have the capital to support,” Rep. Pierce said. “I am hopeful that we can secure funding for many of these projects because they are sorely needed investments for our region. Every county needs investments like these to ensure our residents are getting the public services they need and to entice industry for economic development.

“I am especially proud to offer these projects that improve the abilities of our local first responders to meet the needs of our citizens. Our tax dollars should be put to work improving the quality of life in the places we call home,” Pierce added.
