Investigation continues in 2023 murder case

AHOSKIE – Two years have passed since the lifeless body of 44-year-old William Nathaniel Raynor was discovered on the edge of Hayes Street.

Despite the efforts of investigators, the person that took Raynor’s life remains at large.

As it was on March 11, 2023, Ahoskie Police are still attempting to determine where Raynor was and possibly who he was with in the hours leading up to his death.

His body was found at approximately 12:29 am on that date by a motorist traveling on Hayes Street near Railroad Street who drove up on an unresponsive person lying at the edge of the roadway.

An autopsy listed the cause of death as a gunshot wound.

“We’re still working this case as hard as we did two years ago,” said Stephen White, Deputy Chief of the Ahoskie Police Department. “Mr. Raynor’s family and friends deserve closure in this case.”
