Tiffiany Walton

Tiffiany Walton was recently appointed to the position. She had served as Interim Director for the agency since July 22, 2024.

Walton states it is a pleasure to serve and provide services to citizens of Hertford County. She noted that if someone had told her a year ago that she would be in the position of director she would not have believed it.

“If you work hard and show dedication, doors will open for you,” Walton stated.

Walton said she has learned a lot in her years working with the Department of Social Services. She stated she learned that families are different and when giving the appropriate resources most families will become self-sufficient.

“Our clients do not need to be embarrassed to ask for help,” Walton remarked, adding that she is very compassionate about providing the best customer service to clients.

In her new role as DSS Director, Walton will be responsible for supervising, managing, and overseeing all programs within the Department of Social Services.

“I truly believe in the department’s mission, values, and goals, which are to protect and provide assistance to the citizens of our community, treat all people with dignity, compassion, and respect while providing services, and to care for the well being and safety of the citizens of Hertford County,” she said.

Walton graduated from Elizabeth City State University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Social Work degree. She earned a Master of Arts in Human Service specializing in Family and Marriage Counseling from Liberty University in 2012.

“I am grateful for this new opportunity,” Walton said while expressing her thanks to God, the members of the Department of Social Services Board, the local DSS employees and her family and friends.

She also gave thanks to prior Department of Social Services directors and neighboring county directors who have provided mentoring, guidance, and support.

Additionally, Walton credited her parents, Chester Walton and Louise Harris, for her upbringing and teaching her the importance of working and staying with the tasks assigned.

She also thanked her significant other, Eric Taylor, her children Erykah Taylor, Eriyannah Taylor, and Keasia Taylor, and her niece, Jasimine Taylor.
