WINTON – The Hertford County Board of Commissioners announces a new initiative to recognize the outstanding contributions of local citizens who have made a significant positive contribution to the community.

Beginning this month, the Board will select and honor 10 individuals (one individual each month for 10 months) as “Hertford County HomeTown Heroes” in recognition of their influential contributions through acts of service, bravery, or dedication to the county and its residents.

In a ceremony held during the regular Board of Commissioners meeting, the selected honorees will be presented with an embroidered Hertford County flag featuring their name, which will be flown in front of the Hertford County Judicial Center in Winton prior to being presented.

“We are excited to shine a light on those individuals who give so much to our community,” said Board Chairman Andre` M. Lassiter, Sr. “Their efforts do not go unnoticed, and this initiative is a way to honor their hard work and dedication.”

Community members are encouraged to be on the lookout for announcements regarding the monthly selections as the Board identify individuals who exemplify the spirit of service and commitment to Hertford County.
