AHOSKIE – Jean Bradshaw Rector, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Edgecombe Nursing and Rehabilitation in Tarboro, NC. Jean was born on March 3, 1932 in Roanoke Rapids, NC to parents Matthew Tyler and Myrtle Mae Stancell.
Jean was a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie. She dedicated her life to caring for others for many years as an LPN at Roanoke Chowan Hospital and later in Ashville working in the Physical Therapy Department. She enjoyed nature and spending time walking around outdoors. Jean seemed to be happiest when she was walking the hallways of her apartment complex talking to friends or walking around in the nursing facility talking with friends and the birds in the lobby. Jean was known for her amazing talent for decorating Christmas trees and sharing ornaments with those around her.
Along with her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a spouse, John Alexander, and sisters, Louise Howell, and Anita Gwinn.
Jean is survived by her children Wanda Edwards of Raleigh, Eric Alexander (Jan Slade) of Georgia, and Betty Felton-Reese of Chocowinity; her grandchildren, Trent Alexander (Ashley) of Cockran, GA, Christopher Felton (Amanda) of Chocowinity, Kristen Sulinski (Jonathan) of Warner Robbins, GA, Heather Harding (Tyler) of Chocowinity, Paul Nathan Edwards of Raleigh; and great-grandchildren; Claire Sulinski, Charlie Sulinski, Ellis Alexander, Wyatt Felton, Eli Harding, Seth Harding, and Sadie Felton.
There will be a private celebration of life graveside service at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
