AULANDER – A situation that could have turned volatile ended peacefully here Monday afternoon.

Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said his office received an involuntary commitment order (IVC) for an individual in Aulander. When deputies arrived at the residence, the individual barricaded himself inside and threatened to kill the officers.

The individual was armed with a pistol, Ruffin noted.

The deputies retreated and a decision was made to contact the Nash County Sheriff’s Response Team and Electronic Team for assistance.

That decision led to a peaceful resolve as the individual, who was not identified by name, was taken into custody without incident.

Ruffin gave thanks to the men and women of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and to Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone and his Response Team and Electronic Team.
