MURFREESBORO – Chowan University sent the seniors out in grand fashion here Saturday where the women’s and men’s basketball teams posted wins against Southern Wesleyan.

In the women’s game, Chowan won 82-68. Adeline Smith, Danea Mackey, Kaleah Boykin, and Meara Carter were honored on Senior Day.

Carter set a new career-high in her final home game, scoring 21 points, surpassing her previous best of 19 points against Lees-McRae on January 21.

Aniyah Rainey also posted a career-high with 15 points, along with two steals. Nyeisha Savage recorded a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

The Hawks, who improved to 18-3 overall and 15-3 in Conference Carolinas play, received 39 points from their bench and scored 17 second-chance points. They also dominated the paint with 50 points and added 30 points off turnovers.

Chowan’s men followed with an almost identical outcome as they collected an 81-68 win.

Keith Reese Jr., Aaron Ross, Cheick Traore, RJ Wilson, and Daylan Askew were also honored during Saturday’s senior day celebration. Jaylyn Pooler from the CU developmental basketball program was recognized for his dedication as the program’s third four-year starter.

The Hawks seniors combined for 53 points in the win.

Ross set a new career-high with 26 points, surpassing his previous best of 22 points against Erskine on February 1. Traore set a career-high in blocks, registering five, and also pulled down 11 rebounds in his final home game.

Askew added 12 points.

Damerius Summers recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds

Chowan (16-8 overall; 13-5 in the conference) scored 44 points in the paint, tallied eight second-chance points, and added nine points off turnovers.
