COLERAIN – Inez Baker Robertson, born on February 28, 1934, in Bertie County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Colerain, North Carolina, at the age of 90. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of love, care, and devotion to her family and community.
Inez dedicated her life to the service of others as a Registered Nurse, offering her compassionate care to all who needed it. She began her nursing career in the Operating Room at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. Later in her career she served as Dr. Sawyer’s nurse for over seventeen years before retiring. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life; she was a caregiver to anyone in the community who required assistance, whether it was preparing meals for the sick or providing transportation for medical appointments. Her readiness to lend a helping hand was a testament to her selfless nature.
A woman of strong independence and traditional values, Inez believed in the importance of family and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was always filled with the warmth of homemade meals and the laughter of loved ones.
Inez was a devoted member of Mars Hill Baptist Church in Colerain, NC, where she actively participated in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and the “Q-Tips” Ladies Group. The group, lovingly named the “Q-Tips” since they all had white hair, was known for crafting bibs for hospice patients and nursing home residents, as well as enjoying trips to the outlet mall in Selma and attending live shows at the Rudy Theatre. Inez absolutely loved to travel, taking trips as often as she could.
Inez will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and community, her nurturing spirit, and her boundless generosity. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Allie Nicholson Baker and Elmer John Baker; her husband, Alton Morris Robertson; and her siblings, E.J. Baker, Johnny G. Baker, Marvin Baker, Elmer Grey Evers, and Edith Bryant.
Inez is survived by her loving daughters, Cindy Johnson and husband Earl, and Dawn Bowman and husband Eric; her dear sister, Hilda M. Hoggard; her cherished grandson, Brent Johnson and wife Tiffany; her adored granddaughters Caroline B. Lowe and husband Scott, and Brandi J. Lynch and husband Greg; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Karlee V. Lynch, Grant Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Watson Lowe, Waylon Lowe, William Lynch, and Wyatt Lynch.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church in Colerain, NC. with a time of visitation to follow in the fellowship hall. A private family burial will precede the Celebration of Life Service.
