MILLENNIUM – Sylvia Dianne Hill Lassiter, affectionately known as “Grandmother”, passed away peacefully with family by her side, on February 21, 2025, at the age of 79, at ECU Health Medical Center in Pitt County, North Carolina. Born on October 6, 1945, in Bertie County, North Carolina, Dianne was a beloved daughter of the late Rudolph and Virgie Hill.
Dianne spent her formative years in Elm Grove before her family moved to Ahoskie. A dedicated professional, she graduated from the School of Radiologic Technology at Norfolk General Hospital in 1966. Following her education, Dianne embarked on a remarkable 40-year career at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, where she served with distinction as a registered radiology technician and later as the radiology department manager.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dianne was a woman of profound faith and musical talent, passionately serving the Lord through her gifts as a pianist and organist in several churches. Her music resonated with all who had the privilege of hearing her play.
A nurturing soul, Dianne took immense joy in cultivating her garden, planting a vibrant array of flowers that showcased her natural green thumb. She also found creative fulfillment in sewing quilts and blankets, a cherished activity she loved sharing with her granddaughters. For Dianne, family was at the center of her world, and her granddaughters were the apples of her eye. Her unconditional love extended both to those present and to the dear ones who preceded her in passing. In remembrance of a life well-lived, Dianne will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, faith, and devotion will live on in every life she touched.
Dianne was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Donald R. “Donnie” Lassiter; her beloved daughter, Darlene Lassiter; her sister, Carolyn Edwards; and her parents, Virgie Lassiter Hill and Rudolph Hill.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving son, Don Lassiter, and his wife Rachel; her adored granddaughters, Carleigh Lassiter and Keira Lassiter, all of Millennium; and her brother, Donald Hill, along with his wife Betty Ruth, of Rocky Mount, NC. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were made richer by her love and kindness.
The family received friends on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.
