AHOSKIE – The state of emergency declared yesterday (Wednesday) by town of Ahoskie officials remains in place, to include a curfew.
Today (Thursday), Ahoskie Police Chief Michele Garrett told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that the curfew will be enforced again from 6 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.
“Our roads are still icy. We hope conditions will improve on Friday to the point where we can lift the state of emergency and end the curfew,” Garrett said.
Garrett reminded the public that due to the condition of the roads, response times by local emergency responders will be longer.
She added that the sale of alcohol remains prohibited during the curfew hours, but possession and consumption of alcohol is permitted on a person’s own premises.
Garrett emphasized that the sale of firearms, ammunition, and explosives during curfew hours is permitted. That part of the state of emergency was not supposed to be in place.
“That was my fault yesterday (Wednesday),” Garrett said.
