AHOSKIE – Winter weather is to blame for postponing the dedication of a historical marker here Saturday.
The event, which was planned at New Ahoskie Missionary Baptist Church, was to honor the work of James R. Walker Jr.
The Ahoskie native, who later became a civil rights attorney, is one of the first Black people to graduate from any school at UNC-Chapel Hill and the first Black member of the university’s Dialectic and Philanthropic Societies.
The event will be scheduled for another date.
