Ahoskie declares state of emergency

AHOSKIE – Due to the winter weather and the predicted heavy snowfall, town officials here have issued a proclamation declaring a state of emergency as of 10 a.m. this morning (Wednesday).

That proclamation calls for the implementation of emergency ordinances to include a curfew.

The curfew is in place from 6 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Thursday. Depending on the severity of the snowfall, the curfew may be in place again from 6 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.

Additionally, the sale of alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and explosives are prohibited until the Mayor rescinds the state of emergency.

Possession and consumption of alcohol is permitted on a person’s own premises.
