I am writing this letter to offer praise to a young man for helping me and my kids.

On February 8, I was parked outside the Duck Thru in Lewiston, NC. There was a young man, who I later learned worked at that store, getting out of his car. I asked him for help. I needed to use his cell phone, but the first thing he said was to ask if I was okay. I began to tell him of my troubles, to include me and my kids being homeless.

He asked me did I know where the Ahoskie Inn is located. I told him I didn’t know those directions by heart, so he gave me the directions and told me he was going to pay for me and my kids to stay at that motel for two nights.

He then helped me in another way. He gave me some telephone numbers to call that could offer me assistance in housing. I called those numbers and on February 12 me and my kids were placed in housing.

Back on February 8, I asked the young man that helped me what his name was. He just smiled and said he was happy to help.

On Feb. 11, I called Jernigan Oil to see if they would give me the name of this wonderful young man. I learned that he wanted to remain anonymous.

We need more people in the world like this young man. Duck Thru and Jernigan Oil are fortunate to have such a caring person.
