SWANSEA, IL – Mae Odom Newsome, who was born August 3, 1924 in Ahoskie, NC, peacefully died Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Ruth (Gerald) Privette of Hendersonville, NC; her son, Richard (Cheryl) Newsome of Swansea, IL; four grandchildren, David (Missy) Privette of Candler, NC, Carrie (Lauren) Privette of Flat Rock, NC, Avalon (Nicholas) Elliott of Ann Arbor, MI, and Cheyenne (Kyle) Frazier of Spokane, WA; five great-grandchildren, Abby Harris Privette, Charlie Elliott, Aidan Elliott, Ellie Frazier, and Cami Frazier.

Her life was about giving to others, and she leaves a legacy for her survivors to carry on her tradition. So, as a memorial to her, please do something kind for someone else.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held for Mae at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, NC on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 1 p.m. and she will be laid to rest at Ahoskie Cemetery next to her husband of 58 years, A.D.
