Chowan softball sweeps Elizabeth City State

MURFREESBORO – Chowan University’s softball team picked up another sweep this week at the Hawks Softball Field on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Elizabeth City State, 6-3 and 14-6.

In game one, Mckenzie Misenheimer went 2-for-3, featuring a double and a home run. She finished the day with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Emily Fowler finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Makenzi Curry was in the circle for the Hawks, going the distance with a full seven innings. She surrendered only seven hits and two earned runs, striking out eight batters along the way. At the plate, she was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

In game two, Haileigh Boone came in relief in the second inning and earned the win for the Hawks, throwing a shutout ball for the remainder of the game.

Kyra Helton went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and two RBIs.

Calliope James and Elizabeth Ingle both slapped homeruns, with James driving in three RBIs and Ingle adding two. They each scored two runs on the afternoon

The Hawks totaled 12 stolen bases in game two.

Chowan (4-0 overall) will return to action at home on Saturday, Feb. 8 with a doubleheader scheduled for 12 noon and 2 p.m. against Clarion.
