GREENVILLE – Vickie White Porter, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, at Sunrise of Raleigh in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born on September 16, 1954, in Ahoskie, Hertford County, North Carolina, Vickie lived a life full of love and fulfillment, passing at the age of 70.
Vickie’s career spanned many years and saw her contribute meaningfully to various organizations. She held roles at GE Mortgage in Raleigh, Commercial Realty in Wilmington, and, in her later years, served at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Her professional journey was marked by dedication and a commitment to excellence.
A long-time member of First Baptist Church in Wilmington for over 30 years, Vickie dedicated her time to serving on the Missions and Ministry Committee. Her faith and service were central to her life’s journey, guiding her values and actions.
Her passions were as diverse as they were vibrant. Vickie had an insatiable curiosity about the world, frequently traveling to new places. She was an avid reader, enjoyed rescuing dogs, and loved immersing herself in movies, puzzles, and games like bunco. An adored presence, she cherished spending time with friends and family, and found solace and joy in the simple beauty of the beach. Vickie White Porter touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and generosity of spirit. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Nova Lee Vaughan White and Dederick Lee White, and her husband, Jerry Wayne Porter, who passed in 2004 at the age of 52. She is survived by her loving sister, Rita Leggett of Greenville, NC; two cherished nieces, Casee Volk of Garner, NC, and Ashlee Williford of Greenville, NC; and a treasured great-niece, Abigail Williford, also of Greenville, NC.
A celebration of Vickie’s life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, NC. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m., an hour before the service, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Colerain, North Carolina.
The family will also have a celebration of Vickie’s life at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 411 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28401 time and date to be determined at a later time.
