RICH SQUARE – Robert Winifred Boone, born November 9, 1941, in Northampton County, passed away on January 29, 2025, at the age of 83, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Over his long and fulfilling life, Bobby was known for his dedication, craftsmanship, and boundless love for his family.
For most of his life, Bobby worked as a skilled mechanic, a career that saw him maintaining and repairing tractors and other farming equipment with various local equipment companies. He later took a job at Caledonia Prison, where he served with distinction as a Farm Shop Supervisor until his retirement, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and reliability. Bobby took his talent for fixing tractors home with him, where he was often found working on equipment for local farmers. He took great pride in his work.
Bobby’s passions extended beyond his profession. He treasured the moments spent with his grandsons, Avery and Aaron Boone. Whether attending their basketball games, cross country meets, or school events, Bobby was a steadfast supporter and loving grandfather. In their younger years, he was a constant presence in their lives, offering guidance and care.
Bobby found joy in restoring his cherished 1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible, spending countless hours tinkering and perfecting his car. Bobby also relished trips to Atlantic City with his late wife, Aleene Boone, creating memories filled with love and companionship.
A devoted member of Rehoboth Methodist Church, Bobby enriched the lives of those around him as a Sunday School teacher. His faith and commitment to his community were unwavering and served as an inspiration to many.
Bobby was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ethel Aleene Boone; his parents, James Andrew and Elle Marie Futrell Boone; and his brothers, Wesley Thomas and James Futrell Boone.
He is survived by his son, Robert “Bob” Boone, Jr., and wife Lori of Roanoke Rapids; grandsons, Avery and Aaron Boone of Roanoke Rapids; his brothers, Johnny Boone, Andy Boone, and Joe Boone and his wife Janet; and his sister, Louise Thortis and her husband Ray.
A time of visitation to honor Robert’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 6-7:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square, North Carolina. A Celebration of Life will take place on February 2, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Rehoboth Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Randy Crowder. Interment will follow the service at the Peele-Vick Cemetery, 432 Harrells Siding Rd, Kelford, NC 27847.
