COLERAIN – Talmadge Baker Forehand, affectionately known to family and friends as Jack, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the age of 72, in ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, Washington, North Carolina. Born on April 30, 1952, in Hertford County, North Carolina, Jack lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his faith.
Jack proudly served his country for four years in the United States Military. Following his service, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a chemical operator with Avoca, dedicating many years to the company.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Jack found joy in fishing and hunting, hobbies that reflected his deep appreciation for nature. He was also an accomplished woodworker, crafting pieces that are treasured by those fortunate enough to receive them. Jack’s love for his family was evident in the time he spent with them, and he held a special place in his heart for his dogs.
A longstanding member of Colerain Baptist Church, Jack served in many capacities, reflecting his strong faith and commitment to his community. His faithfulness and service to his church family will be fondly remembered. Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the many lives he touched.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Talmadge Baker Forehand, Sr., and Leona Gibson Forehand, and his beloved grandson, Elias Maddox Forehand. He is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis Burden Forehand; son, Joseph Forehand and wife LaVonda of Colerain; daughter, Jennifer Farmer and husband Lee of Aulander; grandson, Braeden Hair and wife Kali of Colerain; great-granddaughter, Mylah Hair; brother, Carl Forehand and wife Pam of Macclesfield, NC; nephew, Donald Forehand and wife Emily of Macclesfield, NC; niece, Carla Austin and husband Derek of Elm City, NC; and special cousin, Chris Forehand and wife Brianna of Colerain.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Colerain Baptist Church, officiated by his close friend and pastor, Gary Saffell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Lee Farmer, Donald Forehand, Braeden Hair, Matthew Harrell, Chris Forehand, and Joseph Forehand.
