AHOSKIE, NC – Myrtle Perry Terry, born on January 14, 1933 to Walter Kilby Perry and Leigh Belle Felton Perry, in Gates County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in Hertford County, North Carolina, at ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital at the age of 91.
She began her career with Ahoskie Manufacturing and subsequently worked at Dunlow’s Grocery. Myrtle was a “people person” and cherished her time interacting with the community while employed at Capps Daniels Drug Store. Later in life, she devoted herself to her home, embracing the role of a devoted homemaker where she found great joy, and loved to cook.
Myrtle’s true passion was her family. She treasured spending time with her loved ones, sharing many laughs, and was known for hosting memorable Christmas Day gatherings, providing warmth and hospitality to all who entered her home. She raised her brother Oran from the age of 13 after the passing of their mother. She also adored family vacations and enjoyed her time at the beach, creating lasting memories with those she held dear.
Myrtle Perry Terry will be remembered for her loving spirit, welcoming nature, and the countless moments of joy she shared with her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter McCoy Terry, Sr., two sons, Walter McCoy “Coy” Terry, Jr., and Kenny Terry, two brothers, Oran, and Kilby Perry, a sister, Marion Borte, a granddaughter, Sheila, two great grandchildren, Samantha and Heidi, and a great great grandson, Nicholas.
Myrtle is survived by two daughters, Melba Terry Phillips (Michael) of Burlington, and Ann Smith of Greenville; two stepsons, Bobby Terry (Linda) of Aulander, and Will Terry of York Town, VA; brother, Earl Wayne Perry (Alice); seventeen grandchildren, Ken (Carol), Chad (Danyell), Nikki, Chase, Steven, Summer, Stefanie (Tommy), Daniel, Sierra, Kasey, Erica, Coy, Sharon (Chris), Michelle (Leon), Allen (Norma), Ralph, Robert (Roberta); thirty-seven great grandchildren, Shelby, Julie, Adia, Ashlyn, Noah, Carson, Callie, Mia, Aleigha, Austin, Olivia, Corbyn, Corey, Hannah, Samantha, Shelby, Melanie, Lindsey, Michael, John, Matt, Leigh Anne, Annie, Bobby, Madison, Justin, Tyler, Jordan, Logan, Layla, Zachary, Hope, Legend, Katie, Allison, Hope, Cam; twenty-four great great grandchildren, Taylor, Kevin, Fletcher, Lila, Caydence, Edward, Parker, Georgia, Kelsey, Kaleb, Cole, Myah, Briley, Ellie, Kaila, Sophia, Sam, AJ, Lana, Eli, Parker, Layken, Hayes, Tyson; and one great great great grandchild, Meave; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday morning, August 10, 2024, at the chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, North Carolina with Rev. Wayne Proctor officiating.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful doctors, nurses, emergency personnel, friends, family, and home health care individuals that have helped Myrtle during her last few months.
