To the Editor:

On behalf of the Sgt. Will McLawhorn Scholarship Tournament, I’d like to express our thanks again to all who made this year’s tournament such a huge success.

Please thank our sponsors when you see them: Hampton Farms/Severn Peanut Company; Northampton County Farm Bureau-John Brown; Watson Builders; Conway Park and Shop; and TD Sports.

Also a big shout out to Northeast Academy; NEA Athletic Director Joella Brown; Nick Trevino, and John Brown, for helping organize and preparing the field and working tirelessly to make sure the tournament went off without a hitch.

I also would like to thank my niece Charity Dawson for her help at the t-shirt table.

To those who worked the concessions—thank you. The hamburgers and hot dogs were spot on.

And an especially big thank you to the young men and their coaches who gave up part of their Easter vacation to come and play in our tournament.

And if I’ve left anyone out, please accept my apology – the mind and memory “ain’t” what it used to be.

Due to the support of the community we were able to award scholarships to Hunter Martin of Northeast Academy, Connor Munford of Ahoskie Christian School, and Jesse Winn of Ahoskie Christian School. This is our twelfth tournament and to date we have awarded 43 scholarships totaling $25,000.

Thanks again to all who have supported us in this effort to honor our son and brother with these scholarships.
