YORKTOWN, VA – Marion Deloatch Barnett, affectionately known as “Snooke,” 58, of Yorktown, VA, passed away on Friday April 8th at home surrounded by her family and close friends.

Marion was born on May 28, 1964 to Hercules and Shirley Deloatch in Hertford County, NC. She graduated from Murfreesboro High School; Class of 1982. She went on to study Special Education and Teaching at East Carolina University.

After graduating with a degree in Education, she began her professional career with Cornerstone Christian Academy in Greenville, NC and later with Hampton City School System as a Special Ed Teacher, kickstarting a 38-year career. She is also a proud member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.

In 1985, Marion met Mark Barnett and entered into matrimony on August 26, 2000. Marion and Mark went on to have one child, Brandon Barnett.

Marion was predeceased by her father, Hercules Deloatch, Jr; two brothers, Archie Lee Barnes and William Shaw.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Barnett; their son, Brandon Barnett, both of the home; mother, Shirley Deloatch of Murfreesboro, NC; two sisters, Kymberly Deloatch of Greensboro, NC, Jenell Deloatch-Muhammad (Horace) of Murfreesboro, NC; five brothers, Tyrone Deloatch (Evelyn), Charles Deloatch (Carol), Barry Deloatch (Tishanta) all of Murfreesboro, NC and Ronald Deloatch of Petersburg, VA and Chester Shaw of Stockbridge, GA.

Services will be held at Nebo Baptist Church in the Family Life Center in Murfreesboro, NC on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Susan G Komen Breast Foundation. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc. 921 S. Main Street, Rich Square, NC is in charge of the arrangements.
