MURFREESBORO – A man accused of stealing a donation jar from a local convenience store was arrested by the Murfreesboro Police on Tuesday, March 28.

Bruce Flythe

MPD Chief David Griffith told the News-Herald that Bruce Flythe, 60, of Murfreesboro was arrested for two incidences of stealing which occurred on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 at the Speedway convenience store located on the eastern end of Main Street.

During the first incident, Flythe allegedly stole a Children’s Miracle Network donation jar from the store’s counter. Griffith did not have a total for the amount of money which had been in the jar at the time.

Donations to the Children’s Miracle Network help support children’s hospitals across North America. These hospitals often rely on donations and community support for when insurance programs do not fully cover the cost of care.

Flythe returned to the convenience store the next day where he allegedly stole beer.

“We are charging him with Habitual Misdemeanor Larceny,” Griffith stated, explaining that the charge is actually a Class H felony in North Carolina.

People can be charged with this felony after they have been convicted multiple times for misdemeanor larceny.

“He has an extensive criminal record,” Griffith added.

At the time these crimes were committed, Flythe had been out on bond for charges which included Domestic Criminal Trespass, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault on a Female.

Flythe is currently being held on a $5,000 secured bond with a first court appearance scheduled for March 31.
