Robinson’s career effort lifts Chowan women over Barton

MURFREESBORO – Destiny Robinson finished off her regular season with a career-high 30 points and another double-double as the Chowan women defeated Barton 69-60 on Senior Day here Wednesday.

Chowan (16-10 overall and 12-8 in league play) used the win to secure the #5 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Hawks will host the winner of Barton and King on Monday, February 27.

Robinson’s 30 points on Wednesday marked a career-high. She also recorded her 33rd double-double of her career by hauling down 10 rebounds.

Aniah Patterson chipped in with 16 points. Imani Hickman added eight points and eight rebounds.

Chowan, who trailed by as many as 10 points in the first quarter, recovered from a slow start by closing to within four points (24-20) at the end of the first quarter.

Barton pushed their lead out to 31-21 early in the second period before Patterson hit a jumper Robinson then scored the next eight points for the Hawks prior to a layup by Hickman to end the half where Chowan trailed 35-33.

Robinson continued her scoring with a jumper to open the third quarter before Demetria Bland connected from deep and Hickman posted a putback basket to even the score at 40-all. Robinson scored the next eight points to put the Hawks up 48-46.

Patterson tallied a point at the stripe before Robinson collected an old-fashioned three-point play to send the Hawks into the fourth quarter with a 52-51 lead.

Robinson added a pair from the stripe before Meara Carter contributed the three-point play. Sydney Roberts posted a jumper before Robinson added five more points to lead 64-58.

Tyaysia Sharpe added a jumper and Patterson tallied three from the line to finish off the contest.
