CONWAY – Ruby Jean Hodges, age 85, of Conway, passed away on February 10, 2023 at her home.

Mrs. Hodges was born in Halifax County, NC, on November 18, 1937, a daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth Shepard Robertson. Ruby was one who loved children and made a career in childcare as well as waitressing. Ruby enjoyed camping, fishing and crabbing with her husband, and when she wasn’t on an adventure with him, she enjoyed adventures through reading books. She loved sewing, especially quilting, and took great pride in her work, and was a great cook, taking pleasure in cooking for her family and friends. Most of all, Ruby loved her family and will be missed by all.

Besides her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Harrell and her husband, Gene and a brother, Jimmy Shepard.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of almost 70 years, Grady Carroll Hodges; a son, Cliff  Hodges and wife, Melinda of Mims, FL; a daughter, Susan Martin and husband, Joe of Conway, NC; grandchildren, Hannah Hodges (Fiancé – Andrew Ray) of Salem, VA, Haleigh (John) Bodeau of Eden Prairie, MN, Savannah Martin of Conway, NC, and Hunter Martin of Conway, NC; a brother, Arthur “Tommy” (Joanne) Robertson Jr. of Greenville, NC; a sister, Maxine (Steve) VanVlack of Neeses, SC; and her beloved dog, “Scooter”.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 13, 2023 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, NC, and other times at the home.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 11 a.m., at the Meherrin Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, NC, with Rev. John Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
