Bertie’s varsity boys continued their winning ways, pushing their record to 13-3 overall with back-to-back victories at home.

On Saturday, Jan. 14, Bertie rode the hot hand of Zymiere Dempsey, who scored a game-high 31 points (24 of which came on 8-of-11 shooting from three-point range), as the Falcons routed non-conference rival Hertford County, 85-50.

Three other Falcons scored in double figures in that win: Zy’Lee Bazemore (15), Jah’Kelvin Rascoe (13), and Trevon Halleran (10).

At home against Perquimans on Tuesday, Jan. 17, Bertie won their seventh straight game in an 88-32 shellacking of Perquimans. The Falcons placed four in double figures: Halleran (18), Dempsey (14), Jonathan Deaver (13) and Bazemore (12).

Bertie used that win to remain unbeaten (7-0) in conference play.

Hertford County’s varsity boys bounced back from its loss at Bertie by defeating Currituck County, 71-55, at home on Tuesday night. No individual stats were available from that game, but the Bears did improve to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play with the win.

The HCHS varsity girls ran their overall record to 11-3 with two recent wins.

At Bertie on Jan. 14, the Lady Bears got a game-high 19 points from Jaliyah Mitchell and 13 points from Tamia Britt to collect a 48-22 win.

At home on Tuesday vs. Currituck County, Britt poured in a game-high 27 points to highlight at 63-43 victory. That win allowed the Lady Bears to improve their conference record to 6-1.

Ridgecroft School’s varsity teams picked up two key wins this week in Tarheel Independent Conference action with a sweep of Pungo Christian Academy.

The Lady Rams upset league-leading Pungo 45-43 to improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the TIC.

In the varsity boys game, the Rams used a 25-12 scoring advantage in the third quarter to rally from a narrow halftime deficit (37-36) to defeat the Raiders, 81-71.

Sawyer Chamblee (19 points), Baylor Edwards (16), and Bill Vaughan (16) led Ridgecroft, who improved to 13-1 overall while remaining unbeaten (5-0) in the TIC.

Northeast Academy’s varsity teams dropped a pair of TIC games at Lawrence Academy on Tuesday.

In the girls contest, Lawrence prevailed 52-35. The Lady Eagles were led by Hayes Hatcher and Sarah Kate Ricks who scored 17 and 13 points respectively.

Lawrence’s varsity boys got 13 points each from Hayden Phillips and Conner Ferebee to beat the Eagles, 67-10. Warriors defeated the Eagles, 67-10.
