NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Margie Morris Liverman, 87, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 14, 2023. She was a native of Ahoskie, North Carolina where she was born and grew up. On a blind date, she met John Conrad Liverman (“Connie” to everyone) and they eventually were married. Their lives brought them to Norfolk, Virginia where they worked until they both retired and then, like all good Carolinians, they moved back to their true home and built their dream house at Connie’s family farm in St. John. During her working career, Margie worked in personnel for Sears Roebuck and Company, and later at Crestar Bank in Norfolk.

When she moved back to Ahoskie at retirement, she had no trouble reconnecting with friends and family there. Since she was one of 10 children, there were plenty of relatives to go around! Her family was very close and had annual reunions and Christmas get-togethers. She and Connie loved watching and attending car races of all types, from NASCAR to dirt track. They often traveled with their trailer and took many group tours, including the trip of a lifetime to Alaska where they traveled by train, bus, and ship. They also loved their “permanent” trailer camp site at Hertford Campground, run by their dear friends Bob and Teeny Strickland and their family.

Margie enjoyed gardening, loved nature, and being outdoors. She could watch hummingbirds forever! She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and always had a great meal or treat in the works. She never met a jigsaw puzzle she couldn’t conquer.

Margie attended St. John Baptist Church in St. John, NC, and was a member of the choir. She was also active in the Ahoskie Women’s Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the St. John Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered at the local food bank.

Margie woke up happy and optimistic every day and always saw the best in people. She was loved and respected by family and friends.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Sebron and Foye Morris of Mars Hill, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years and her nine siblings, Walter Morris, Sybil Mitchell, Earl Morris, Staley Morris, Lois Lassiter, Marie Harrell, Barbara Perry, Edna Matthew, and Sylvia Macon. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Liverman Carmines and husband Rob of Newport News, VA; her son, J. Kevin Liverman of Norfolk, VA; her grandson, R. Taylor Carmines; granddaughter, Kelsey J. Carmines; her special niece, Diane Shelton and husband Bruce of Winston-Salem, NC; along with numerous equally special nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service (205 NC Hwy. 42 West, Ahoskie, NC). There will be a visitation from 12-1 p.m., a service from 1-2 p.m., and graveside burial ceremony.
