MURFREESBORO – Louise Chitty Howard, 84, of Murfreesboro, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2022 surrounded by family.

Louise was born on March 14, 1938 to Ruben Duncan and Virgie Northcott Chitty in Hertford County North Carolina. She married the love of her life and her best friend, Curtis Howard, Jr. on May 4, 1957. They were happily married and cherished each other for sixty-five and half years. Louise worked for many years as a clerk at Town & College Cleaners and worked her later years as a funeral attendant at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service at the Murfreesboro Chapel. She was a devoted member of Meherrin Baptist Church serving on many committees like bereavement, she taught 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School for 47 years, sang in the choir, and she cooked and visited the shut ins. Louise was someone that you could sit down and talk to about anything. She was a great listener and gave good advice in a loving way. She will be greatly missed by those that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Margaret Chitty Brinkley; her brother-in-law, David Alan Brinkley, Jr.; and two brothers, Ruben “RD” Chitty and Ronald Chitty.

Louise is survived by her husband Curtis; two sons, Thomas Eugene Howard and his wife Debbie of Ahoskie and Stuart Curtiss Howard and his wife Wendy of Conway; a daughter, Jackie Howard Pierce and her husband Vann of Ahoskie; a brother, William “Billy” Chitty and his wife Sharon of Cleveland, OH; four grandsons, Neal Thomas Howard and his wife Leigh Ann, Casey James Howard, Tyler Howard, and Andrew “Drew” Howard; a granddaughter, Lauren Nicole Pridgen and her fiancé Billy Slemp; two step-granddaughters, Lauren Pierce Allen and her husband Greg and Chelsea Pierce Mast and her husband Mark; a step-grandson, Ryan Michael Pierce; three great-granddaughters, Harper, Skylar, and Mary Paige and a step-great grandson, Hunter and many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends on Monday, November 28, 2022 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, NC.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Meherrin Baptist Church with Rev. John Porter officiating the service. The burial followed at the Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery.
