NEA wins three games at Oakwood School

GREENVILLE – Northeast Academy won three if its four games here Tuesday at Oakwood School in non-conference basketball action.

In varsity girls play, Hayes Hatcher scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady Eagles to a 37-12 victory.

Chloe Long (8 points), Gracie Baker (6), Sarah Kate Ricks (6), and Lindsay White (3) added to NEA’s winning effort.

In the varsity boys game, Oakwood used an 11-4 scoring advantage in the second quarter to build a 16-11 halftime lead en route to defeating the Eagles, 39-26.

Northeast was led by Chance Lassiter’s 10 points. Payton Brinkley and Nathan Trevino added six points each, Hunter Martin tallied four points, and Dawson Vann chipped in two.

Northeast swept both jayvee games with the girls winning 28-2 while the boys posted a 39-23 victory.

Arland Davis poured in 18 points to lead the jayvee girls. Lena Taylor (7), Sabrina Piland (2) and Jessa Pope (1) rounded out the scoring.

Jake Parks held the hot hand for the NEA jayvee boys as he scored 24 points. Preston Ordnung (6), Camden White (5), Skyler Ricks (2), and Key Minnix (2) added to the winning performance.

Northeast returned to the court on Thursday where they hosted Kerr-Vance Academy in a trio of non-conference games.

The NEA jayvee boys came away with the only win of the night by the home team as the Eagles built a 25-13 halftime lead en route to a 40-30 victory.

Parks and White led the winning effort as each scored 14 points.

NEA’s varsity girls overcame a slow start and made a run in the second and fourth quarters, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Lady Eagles fell, 37-31.

Hatcher (12) Leah McDermott (6), Ricks (5), Baker (4), and Long (4) scored for the Lady Eagles.

In varsity boys action, Kerr-Vance bolted to a 38-11 halftime lead on their way to handing the Eagles a 69-30 setback.

Martin topped the NEA scorebook with nine points. Trevino and Dalton Vann added five points each, while Dawson Vann and Heath Hobbs each chipped in three points. Payton Brinkley (2) and Cole Taylor (1) rounded out the Eagles scoring.

Will Holmes led K-VA with a game-high 23 points.

Northeast was scheduled to host Bethel Christian on Friday (Nov. 18). Those non-conference contests (jayvee girls and boys, and varsity girls and boys) have been rescheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 29 beginning at 4 p.m. with the jayvee girls game.
