The 2022 high school football season continues for four teams in the Roanoke-Chowan area.

Following the conclusion of the regular season this past Friday, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) announced the pairings for their annual state playoffs. Those games begin this Friday (Nov. 4) at the football stadiums of the higher seeded teams.

Northampton County gained the highest seed of any R-C area team. The Jaguars (8-2 overall) tied for first place in their conference and are seeded #4 in the 32-team Class 1A Eastern bracket. Northampton will host #29 Jones County (1-9) in Friday’s opening round.

Thanks to their thrilling 64-57 victory at Edenton-Holmes this past Friday night, Hertford County polished off a 9-1 regular season. The Bears captured second place in the Northeastern Coastal Conference standings, which earned the team the #11 seed in the Eastern bracket of the Class 2A state playoffs. HCHS will entertain #22 East Bladen High School (5-5 overall) this Friday at Bears Stadium.

Gates County closed out the regular season by winning four consecutive games en route to a 6-4 overall record and third place in their conference. The Red Barons are seeded 12^th in the Eastern Class 1-A bracket and will open the 2022 NCHSAA state playoffs at home this Friday by hosting league foe Washington County (seeded #21 with a 3-7 overall record).

Bertie also finished the regular season on a high note by winning three of their last five games, earning themselves a #15 seeding in the Class 1A Eastern bracket. The Falcons (4-6 overall) will play at home this Friday, entertaining #18 Pender County (5-5 overall).

#1 Tarboro (9-1) who has an opening round bye

#8 Riverside Martin (9-1) will host #25 Pamlico County (3-7)

#9 North Edgecombe (7-3) will host #24 KIPP Pride (2-8)

Class 2A

#5 Northeastern (8-2) will host #28 Farmville Central (5-5)

#14 Edenton Holmes (7-3) will host #19 Southwest Edgecombe (4-6)

#18 Camden County (6-4) will travel to #15 James Kenan (8-2)

#23 Roanoke Rapids (3-7) will travel to #10 South Granville (5-5)

Class 3A

#11 Currituck County (6-4) will host #22 Lee County (7-3)
