AHOSKIE – An investigation is underway as to the cause of a fire that gutted the interior of the Bojangles restaurant here last night (Wednesday).

Ahoskie Fire Chief Michael Bradley said a passerby called in the fire shortly after 11:30 p.m. The restaurant had been closed for several hours by that time.

“Flames were showing through the roof upon our arrival,” said Bradley.

All totaled, Bradley said four units and 16 firefighters from Ahoskie Stations 1 and 2 battled the blaze. The last fire suppression unit, he said, left the scene at 3:08 a.m. although one AFD service vehicle truck and the Ahoskie Police remained overnight to secure the building.

Bradley confirmed there were no injuries to the firefighters working the scene of the blaze.

Hertford County EMS and the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

The Ahoskie Police Department is handling the investigation. Bradley said the fire originated in the kitchen area of the restaurant, but a cause has yet to be determined.

Bradley said he spoke this morning with an individual representing the franchise that operates the Ahoskie Bojangles.

“From what I was told, they have intentions to rebuild at the same location,” Bradley said.

The restaurant is located at 1203 North Academy Street.
