Hurricane forces changes in local football games

With Hurricane Ian currently bearing down on the Gulf Coast of Florida and its possible impact on northeastern North Carolina with rain and wind later this week, local athletic officials have made changes to their respective football schedules.

Hertford County High School’s home game vs. rival Northeastern, scheduled for Friday night, has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 29. Kickoff from Bears Stadium is 7 p.m.

Bertie High School athletic officials have rescheduled Friday’s home game vs. South Creek to Thursday. That game lists a 7 p.m. kickoff inside Roy Bond Stadium.

Gates County’s game at Tarboro, scheduled for Friday, will be played at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Northeast Academy officials said they will make a decision on Wednesday as to keeping their home game vs. Lawrence Academy as scheduled on Friday or moving it to Thursday.

Mother Nature has forced a change with the Chowan University’s scheduled trip on Saturday to Fayetteville State University for a CIAA football game.

With Hurricane Ian approaching, both schools have agreed to move the contest to Thursday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the contest can be viewed on the CIAA Sports Network.
