MURFREESBORO – Chowan will look to rebound after their season opening loss as the Hawks take on Tusculum on Saturday, Sept. 10 in non-conference football action.

The contest, which kicks off at 1 pm inside James G. Garrison Stadium, will be streamed via the Chowan Sports Network located on the gocuhawks.com website, free of charge for all viewers.

The Hawks used the services of Max Smyth and Rashad McKee in the season opener with the duo combining for 11-of-29 passing for 120 yards. McKee holds the opener hand, statistically, with 82 yards passing.

Jaylon Boyd and Tyrek McNeil were the main offense for the Hawks collecting 64 and 63 yards respectively on the ground. Laurence King led the receivers with five receptions and 72 yards.

The bright spot out of the loss was on the defensive side of the ball, forcing three turnovers and limiting Barton to covert only twice in six trips to the redzone. Kmare Carey and Malik Rencher collected interceptions, while Simeone Burns notched a forced fumble. Montre Moore led the team with 9.0 tackles.

Tusculum comes into the contest on a high note after a 70-13 victory over St. Augustine’s last weekend. The Pioneers posted 511 yards of total offense with 317 yards through the air and 194 yards on the ground. Tre Simmons tossed for 280 yards and five scores.

Chowan and Tusculum met for the first time last season with the Hawks coming away with the 46-38 victory in double overtime. Tyrek McNeil scored the touchdown in the first overtime period before Jaylon Boyd punched it in for the game-winner.
