MURFREESBORO – Vice President of Athletics, Patrick Mashuda, has announced the promotion of Bryan Hill as the next Chowan head baseball coach as Taylor Furlough accepted an administrative position within the University.

“I am very grateful and honored to be named head coach of the Chowan baseball program,” stated Coach Hill. “Taylor and I have worked closely together for over a decade and couldn’t be more thankful to have worked under such an outstanding coach and role model.”

Hill, a Chowan alum, takes over the reigns after spending the last three seasons (2019-21) as the Associate Head Coach and the prior seven seasons (2012-18) as the Assistant Coach. Hill helped the program clinch the CIAA Championship in 2016 along with the program’s first-ever NCAA Division II postseason berth.

“I’m ready to begin the next chapter in my coaching career and look forward to another great year of Hawks baseball,” Hill stated.

Coach Hill spent several seasons in the Coastal Plain League working with the Edenton Steamers and the Wilson Tobs. He was named CPL Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2015.

Hill graduated from Chowan in 2009 after his four-year career as a pitcher and outfielder. During the 2006 season, Hill was named to the All-NCCAA South Region.

“I am beyond excited for Bryan,” said Furlough. “Bryan becomes the fourth straight Chowan graduate to lead the baseball program and I am looking forward to how he takes the program and puts his stamp on it.”

“We are excited for Coach Hill and his family as he steps into this new role in a program he played in, and has served for many years,” stated Mashuda. “We certainly want to thank Coach Furlough for his efforts over the years. He has given countless hours to ensuring the program’s overall success and we appreciate that beyond words. We all look forward to seeing Coach Furlough grow in his new position on campus and Coach Hill continue to move the baseball program forward.”

Furlough spent 11 seasons at the helm and 14 seasons overall within the program starting in 2008 as an assistant. During the 2022 season, Furlough became the all-time wins leader with 193 victories at Chowan.
