AHOSKIE – A drive-by shooting claimed the life of a local woman Wednesday morning.

Hertford County Sheriff Dexter Hayes said 54-year-old Angie Britt of Murfreesboro died as the result of gunshot wounds she suffered while operating a vehicle on Boone Farm Road just outside the community of Union.

Hayes said the fatal shots were fired from another vehicle shortly after 11:30 a.m.

He added that there were three passengers, all juveniles, in Britt’s vehicle at the time of the incident. None of those children were injured, the Sheriff noted.

“Medical resuscitation efforts were performed on Ms. Britt at the scene, and she was transported to ECU Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie where she passed away,” Hayes said

He added that his investigators were processing Britt’s vehicle for evidence, to include an effort to determine how many shots were fired.

“We do have some leads on a suspect vehicle and are working at this time to gather more information,” he said.

To assist in that investigation, Hayes encouraged anyone traveling in the Union area this morning, particularly along Boone Farm Road towards NC 11 or in the area of Beechwood Country Club Road, to contact the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office at 252-358-7800.

“If you saw something out of the ordinary or witnessed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed, please call us with that information,” Hayes said.
