Five seek three seats on Hertford County School Board

AHOSKIE – Filing ended Friday, Aug. 5 for those seeking seats on the Hertford County Board of Education.

Three seats are up for grabs later this year and five individuals filed, to include two incumbent board members.

Filing for the non-partisan seats were incumbents Shelia Porter and Dennis M. Deloatch, both of of Murfreesboro. Porter and Deloatch currently serve the board as Chair and Vice Chair respectively.

Joining those incumbents on the ballot are two political newcomers, Eric Carey of Ahoskie and Brunet V. Parker of Murfreesboro.

Also filing was David Shields of Ahoskie, a former member of the county’s Board of Education.

Meanwhile, incumbent School Board member Dr. James M. Shearn of Winton chose not to seek another term in office.

All seats on the Hertford County Board of Education are elected at-large. School board members serve four-year terms.

The General Election will be held on Nov. 8.
