High speed chase ends with arrest

GATES – A local man faces various charges after he attempted to elude arrest during a chase on the highway.

Gates County Sheriff Ray Campbell said the chase occurred Monday morning (Aug. 1). Campbell said that a Gates County deputy observed a speeding motorist in the area of US Highway 158 near Roduco. Upon initiating a traffic stop, the motorist attempted to flee from the deputy.

After a pursuit that reached speeds in excess of 115 mph, Campbell said deputies were able to stop the fleeing subject at the intersection of Hackley Road and NC Highway 37 North, Gates.

Braden William Crosson, age 35 of Corapeake, was taken into custody and charged with felony flee to elude arrest, driving while impaired, no operators license, and other infractions.

Crosson was placed under a $20,000 secured bond.
