AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police Department has received complaints from individuals receiving text messages asking the recipient to click on a link to receive $10 off a shirt supporting the Ahoskie Police Department.

Ahoskie Police Chief Jimmy Asbell said those receiving these fraudulent messages are being asked to fill in their bank account/credit card information to receive their T-shirt.

“These requests are a scam,” Asbell stressed. “The Ahoskie Police Department is not selling shirts, nor do any of the proceeds come back to the agency. Please delete the message and do not open the link.”

There are reports of this scam impacting other law enforcement agencies in the eastern region of the state as well as other parts of North Carolina.
