YANCEY COUNTY, NC – Kevin Hill Britton, age 52, went to his home on God’s celestial shore on Friday, July 1, 2022. Born in Hertford County, NC, Kevin had lived in many places before making his home with his beloved wife Laura Handley in Yancey County.

Kevin was the son of Thomas Jefferson Britton and Mary Edna Hill Britton, both deceased.

In addition to his wife, Kevin is survived by his sister Patricia and husband Jim Barr, their sons Kerry and Travis, wife Phyllis and their son Cade; by brother Jeff Britton, wife Shirley, their son Ken and wife Serena, and their sons Trace and Trevor; by brother Chris Britton, wife Michelle and son Nathan; by sister Marcia Britton and partner Loren Knouse; by goddaughter Kelsey O’Brien; by one surviving aunt Iona Hill Richardson; by one surviving uncle Burleigh Hill; and by dozens of cousins.

Kevin attended East Carolina University and studied both architectural design and history. He served his community in his younger years as a firefighter and had planned on doing so here as well. He had a lifelong interest in Civil War history and was a Civil War reenactor for many years. He had a gift for design and building and was in the process of creating a lovely family homestead on the banks of the Toe River.

Kevin developed a lifelong passion for motorcycles at an early age, racing motocross in high school and having a series of motorcycles in his earlier years. On his 50th birthday, his wife surprised him with a classic 1967 BSA motorcycle. After two years of careful restoration, Kevin got on the road on July 1, only to encounter something that he loved even more than machines – a doe and her fawn crossing the road. We believe Kevin left the road to avoid hitting them and tragically did not survive.

Kevin was a member of Locust Grove Church at 1275 Murphytown Road in Green Mountain, where wife Laura will receive friends at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2022 with a memorial service following at 2:30 p.m., Pastor Donnie Bryant officiating. A family service will later be held at St. John Baptist Church in St. John, NC, and Kevin’s remains will be laid to rest at the Teaster family cemetery in St. John.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Locust Grove Church, St. John Baptist Fellowship Fund, or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org or at Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
