AHOSKIE – Three seats are up for grabs later this year on the Hertford County Board of Education.

Filing for those seats opens at 12 noon on Friday, July 1. The filing period ends at 12 noon on Aug. 5.

Three of the five seats on the county’s school board are part of the 2022 election cycle. Those seats are currently held by incumbents Shelia J. Porter, Dennis M. Deloatch, and Dr. James W. Shearn.

Porter and Deloatch currently serve the board as Chair and Vice Chair respectively.

All seats on the Hertford County Board of Education are non-partisan and are elected at-large. School board members serve four-year terms.

The General Election will be held on Nov. 8.

Those wishing to file are required to be registered voters in Hertford County. The filing fee is $5.

Filing is done at the Hertford County Board of Elections office, located at 418 Everett Street (Suite A), Ahoskie. Office hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
