WINTON – An article published in Saturday’s (June 11) RC News-Herald regarding the proposed Hertford County budget for FY 2022-23 contains information that needs to be clarified.

It was reported in the article that the draft budget includes a $50,000 increase for the local supplement awarded to the president of Roanoke-Chowan Community College.

The proposed budget submitted by County Manager David Cotton includes a $50,000 allocation increase for RCCC. However, only a portion of that allocation is suggested as an increase for the local supplement awarded to the president of the community college.

“The president’s local supplement has been proposed at $20,000,” stated Cotton in an email sent June 13 to this newspaper. “The president’s current local supplement is $6,000. The proposed increase of an additional $14,000 would bring the president’s total local supplement to $20,000. The remaining $36,000 of the proposed $50,000 increase would be available for RCCC to allocate within their operating budget.”

The RC News-Herald apologizes for any confusion caused by the reporting of this allocation increase to Roanoke-Chowan Community College.
