COMO – Traffic using a well-traveled road near here will have detour around a bridge replacement project that is scheduled to begin this week.

On Monday, May 2, the North Carolina Department of Transportation plans to close SR 1311 (Boones Bridge Road) northwest of Como. This closure will allow for the replacement of the bridge located a short distance from Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Traffic will be detoured around the work zone utilizing Whitley Road (SR 1314), Statesville Road (SR 1310, which becomes VA 673 upon crossing the state line), and Edwin Evans Road (SR 1313, VA 707). Local traffic will be able to utilize Boones Bridge Road on each side of the bridge.

The bridge replacement contract is awarded to Dellinger Inc. at a cost of 749,644.34. The contract calls for the work to be completed by the end of August.

According to Brooks Braswell, Resident Engineer with the Ahoskie office of NCDOT, this work is the first of two scheduled bridge replacements on Boones Bridge Road. Plans call for the bidding process to begin in April of next year to replace the Meherrin River bridge on the same road.
