Those wishing to cast their votes early for the upcoming primary election will have the chance to do so beginning this week.

The One-Stop early voting period will run from Thursday, April 28 until Saturday, May 14. Dates and locations vary from county to county.

Bertie County voters will have two locations to cast their ballots early: Bertie County Board of Elections Office (210 W. Watson Street, Windsor) and Powellsville Town Hall (106 E. Main Street, Powellsville). Each location will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays during the early voting period. Early voting will not be available during the weekend except for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.

Primary races in Bertie County include Board of Commissioners (Districts 2, 3, 5), Clerk of Court, and Sheriff.

Gates County will only offer one location for early voting: Gates County Community Center, located at 130 US Hwy 158 West, Gatesville. That site will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays during the early voting period. It will also be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, May 7, and May 14.

Gates County races include Board of Commissioners (Eure, Gates, Gatesville Districts), Clerk of Court, and Sheriff. Voters will also cast their ballots in the nonpartisan Board of Education race to fill seats for Districts 1, 3, and 5.

In Hertford County, early voters will have to go to the Board of Elections Office (418 Everett Street, Suite A, Ahoskie) to fill out their ballots. That location is offering early voting from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. each weekday during the early voting period. There is no weekend voting available except for Saturday, May 14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Races on the Hertford County ballot include Board of Commissioners (Districts 1 and 2), Clerk of Court, and Sheriff.

Additionally, registered voters in Ahoskie will be able to cast their vote for three seats on the town council (Ward A, Ward B, and At-Large). This race was postponed from municipal elections in 2021 due to redistricting based on results from the 2020 U.S. Census.

Voters in Northampton County can choose among three locations to vote early: Northampton Cultural and Wellness Center (9536 NC Hwy 305, Jackson), Cool Spring Community Center (101 Cherry Street, Gaston), and Creecy Gymnasium (210 Robert Road, Rich Square). Each location will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays during the early voting period. Early voting will not be available during the weekend except for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.

Primary races in Northampton County include Board of Commissioners (Districts 3, 4, 5), Clerk of Court, and Sheriff. Voters will also cast their ballots to fill three seats in the nonpartisan Board of Education race as well as for an unexpired term on the Board of Education left vacant after Josephine Dunn passed away unexpectedly in 2021.

Primary ballots will also include races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, NC General Assembly, and District Attorney.

Those choosing to vote by absentee ballot must submit an absentee ballot request form by Tuesday, May 10. The absentee ballot must then be returned by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17.

For voters who choose not to cast their ballots early, traditional polling places will be open in each county on Primary Day (Tuesday, May 17) from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Registered voters will be given a ballot of candidates for their affiliated party. Unaffiliated voters may choose between the Democratic or Republican ballot.

The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 8.
