RICH SQUARE – Susan Wiggins Whitley (78) died peacefully at home surrounded by her family Friday, February 25, 2022.

Mrs. Whitley, daughter of the late Lewis Napoleon and Pauline Taylor Wiggins, was born June 10, 1943 in Bertie County, NC. She was a devoted member of Rich Square Baptist Church as her health permitted. Susan worked as a paralegal for Jack Warmack and Luther Culpepper for many years. She played the piano and loved music as well as being outdoors, fishing, camping, gardening, wildlife, and bird watching. Her favorite pets were a dog, Boy, she had growing up, and Sunny, a cat she adopted five years ago she referred to as one of her kids. She grew up on a farm in Seaboard and jokingly reminded those around her she was “a tomboy”. Of the many organizations she financially supported she was most devoted to Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck; she was also a member of the Roanoke Chowan Wildlife Club and Northampton County Chamber of Commerce. Susan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, whose memory will be forever cherished.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Whitley, and son, Charles Eston Liverman, Jr.

Memories of Susan are treasured by her three daughters, Bobbie Burke and husband David of Littleton, Amy Singer of Geneva, IL, and Wendy Liverman Smith of Ahoskie; her grandchildren, Steven Burke and fiancé Celeste Hill, and Connie Wright and husband Gary, all of Henderson, Kye Singer of Geneva, IL, Austin Singer and wife Hannah of Batavia, IL, Gavin Singer and fiancé Amanda Wiggins of Show Low, AZ, and Larry Smith Jr. and wife Brittney of Hertford, NC, Chrystal Martin of Manteo, Ashley Smith and Hunter Deloatch of Milwaukee, and Brittany Smith of Menola; 20 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and two sisters, Rose Mills and husband Ted of Perrysburg, OH, and Paula Watson and husband Robert of Warrenton.

Visitation is scheduled 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 with the Celebration of Life following

Thursday, March 3, at 2 p.m. with Chaplin Casey Short officiating; both will be held at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square.
