MURFREESBORO – Annie Sarah Payne Davis, age 91, passed away on February 28, 2022, at her home with her family by her side.

Mrs. Davis was born in Harrellsville, NC, on March 10, 1930, a daughter of the late William Eugene and Lizzie Ellen Piland Payne. Sarah was a yarn maker for many years. She was a faithful and devoted member of Brantley’s Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed being active in the church as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed reading her bible and did so every night before bed. Sarah enjoyed the outdoors and working in her flowers and garden. In addition to her bible, Sarah loved to read through cookbooks. She was a kind, generous soul and will be missed by all who knew her.

Besides her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Lee Davis, and brother, Julian Payne.

Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Otis C. Payne and wife, June of Ahoskie, NC; her sister, Agnes Ellen Joyner of Murfreesboro, NC; four nieces, Kay Wrenn of Ahoskie, NC, Vickie Venable of Tuscaloosa, AL, Janet Stradley of Youngsville, NC, and Judy King of Chesapeake, VA; and a nephew, Mike Payne of Outer Banks, NC.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Jeanie Vaughan for the love and care given to Mrs. Sarah and Mrs. Agnes, you have been a blessing to us all.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 1-1:45 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC. The celebration of life service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, with Rev. Jimmy Ward and Rev. John Porter officiating. Burial will be in Harrellsville Cemetery.
