Lady Eagles upend Ridgecroft

AHOSKIE – Northeast Academy used decisive scoring advantages in the first and third quarters to defeat Ridgecroft School, 47-42, here Wednesday night in a Tarheel Independent Conference varsity girls basketball game.

The Lady Eagles outscored their hosts 12-5 in the opening period and 15-4 in the third quarter to gain the upper hand.

NEA’s Emalee Jones led all scorers with 27 points. Hayes Hatcher (8), Gracie Baker (7) and Sarah Kate Ricks (5) added to the winning effort.

Makenzie Slaughter led Ridgecroft with 13 points.

In varsity boys action, Ridgecoft used a 24-8 run in the first quarter and went on to defeat Northeast, 78-45.

Sawyer Chamblee (19), Nacir Lewis (15), Blayden Miller (14), and Baylor Edwards (14) led the Ridgecroft scoring attack as the Rams improved to 16-1 overall.

Carter Hatcher scored a game-high 22 points to pace Northeast.

Northeast won both jayvee games: 33-8 in the girls contest and 38-11 in the boys game. Karson Ricks had 16 points to lead NEA in the girls game while Jake Parks (15) and Camden White (13) each scored in double digits to pace the NEA boys.

NEA and Ridgecroft are scheduled to meet again on Friday (Feb. 4) in Lasker to close out the regular season.

The TIC tournament begins next week at Albemarle School in Elizabeth City.
