AHOSKIE – Bernice Bazemore Umphlett, age 80, of Church Street, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at the Accordius Health at Creekside Care of Ahoskie, North Carolina.

Mrs. Umphlett was born on June 15, 1941 to Russell Jenkins and Lillian Bryan Jenkins in Northampton County, North Carolina. Bernice worked as a shipping clerk for Mylcraft for many years. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie where she loved worshipping God and spending time with her church family. Bernice cherished her family, liked animals, and most of all, loved playing in the dirt planting and tending her flower garden. She had some of the most beautiful flowers around that have been admired by many over the years. Bernice was loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Perry Bazemore, Jr.; second husband, Thomas Umphlett; sister, Evelyn Jenkins; and her brother, Gilbert Jenkins.

Bernice is survived by her sister, Connie Robertson and husband Carlton of Edenton, North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Brenda Jenkins of Rich Square, North Carolina; along with numerous extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 from 1-1:45 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, North Carolina. A celebration of life service will follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Anita Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Ahoskie Cemetery, Ahoskie, North Carolina.
